Some information about Alison Ivanec
I was born in Ferryhill County Durham and I always wanted to be an artist from being a very little girl. This was very unusual , most of my friends wanted to be a ballerina or an airstewardess or a teacher. I ended up joining the real world of work doing what I loved for a living was not possible. I have always loved the arts and I have had the pleasure of of being a member of a number of local amateur theatre groups – Gainford Drama Club, Green Theatre Darlington and the Hogarth Partnership Players
Questions and Answers
Have you always painted?
Yes, I have always painted but usually only on holiday. I will add some pages of my holiday paintings
Why have you started to paint fulltime?
When my Dad died unexpectedly in 2018 it brought home to me how precious life is, and how you only have one life. My Dad told me to do what I loved to do so that’s exactly what I am doing. This has been reinforced by the current worldwide health crisis which has paused and then reset our priorities. I started to paint in Lockdown and to share my art with friends and family. It has brought much needed cheer at a difficult and isolating time for many.
I discovered by sending paintings to friends for birthdays and wedding anniversaries, and at sadder occassions the power they had to bring sunshine.
What is your art like
It is bright and bursting with colour and life. I use acylic paints and inks mostly, with some watercolour and pencil. one friend called my art neo impressionist, but I can not describe it myself, let me have your suggestions. I have never consciously attempted to paint or draw in any style. I just paint from the heart.
What do you paint ?
Although I do paint landscapes and still lives, I love to paint trees, flowers, birds and animals and during lockdown my art is always of people.
Does your art have a purpose?
My aim is to make you smile and to bring a burst of colour into your life. My art is a celebration of life.
What inspires you?
Nature, and music mostly and poetry. I often think of a song when I have finished a piece and find it is expressed in the painting.
